As a kid, I always had a camera in hand. My parents probably got sick of the number of random film containers and disposable cameras I gave them on a weekly basis to develop. It was less about having a technically correct photo, and more about capturing my circle as they were in that moment in time. I still have some of those photos, and look back on them and smile, remembering life at that age. My husband often jokes that my memory of people and events is iron clad, I personally think I owe a lot of it to all the photos I took.

After high school, I moved to Washington state, just outside of Seattle. The beauty of the area drove me to try and teach myself the technical side of photography. However, given this was before the internet became the vast knowledge source that it is today, it went about as well as you can imagine. When we got married, I still didn't know much about photography, and that transferred into our choices for wedding photographer. It was looking at my wedding photos once I learned about photography that built the foundation for how I take and edit my images. My goal is to keep your images as timeless and authentic as possible, so they last for the long haul on your walls.

Once our daughter was born I got my hands on someone's, "fancy camera." She had just started bear crawling around the house (at a speed I'm not entirely sure was natural). I shamelessly told my husband that I longed for that camera, not because of all the ways I could take beautiful photos, but because, "I could shoot a lot of photos really fast and hopefully manage one of our daughter that wasn't blurry for once." That year, he humored my request and I officially owned my first DSLR. It's a dangerous thing to be a first time mom with a camera that can take that many photos that quickly.

In 2013 after accidentally taking a few photos that were, "amazing," in comparison to my average, everyday camera phone shot, I decided my camera was capable of doing a whole lot more than I was allowing it to, and it was time to buckle down and learn. So, I took a course, and then another, and then put my hands on as much information as I could gather. I found local photographers willing to mentor and teach me, and I sat like a sponge, happy to take in whatever I could for information.

In 2015 I decided that along with being a homemaker, I was also going to be a photographer. I loved it. It was, hands down, the most rewarding job I'd ever had. Getting to capture photos of kids, with genuine smiles on their faces. Smiles that reached their eyes. Eyes that sparkled when they looked past me to Mom and Dad. Capturing exactly who everyone was in that moment. The very thing I loved to do when I was young with my disposable cameras and my best friends.

When I started homeschooling, the season of life for business had to be put on pause while we adjusted to the shift in household priorities. However, feeling incomplete without a camera in my hand, I moved to a volunteer position with the Pennsylvania State Wide Adoption Network as a photographer. I continued taking photos. Photos of my daughter, our home school co-op, sessions for friends, anything that kept the camera in my hands. And, once our home school life had finally found its rhythm, the seasons shifted again, and back to business I went.
